Weather Postpones Jimmy "Pup" Thomas Memorial at Tazewell — Setting Up a Double-Header with I-75
(Eastaboga, AL – June 6, 2025) – With a strong threat of severe weather looming, Crate Racin’ USA officials, in conjunction with Tazewell Speedway, have made the difficult decision to postpone the Inaugural Jimmy “Pup” Thomas Memorial, originally scheduled for this Saturday night.
The event has now been rescheduled for Thursday, June 19, and will now pay $7,500-to-win, setting the stage for a high-stakes East Tennessee Double-Header weekend, alongside the J.T. Kerr Memorial at I-75 Raceway on June 20–21.
The decision comes as meteorologists forecast a very high probability of disruptive weather for the region this weekend. As of this morning, storms are expected to move into the area late Friday evening, bringing the threat of severe weather, including heavy rainfall and isolated hail. The wet forecast will unfortunately carry over into Saturday, with an 80% chance of widespread thunderstorms throughout the day, and a 90% chance of continued rain and storms into the evening hours.
With driver safety, fan experience, and equipment preservation in mind, officials acted proactively to avoid last-minute travel disruptions and to preserve the prestige of the Jimmy "Pup" Memorial as a full racing event.
The rescheduled Jimmy “Pup” Thomas Memorial will now kick off a two-track, three-night Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series double-header in East Tennessee.

I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, TN) – J.T. Kerr Memorial - $10,000-to-win

This revamped Tennessee Double-Header offers race teams and fans a chance to experience back-to-back major events, with $17,500 in total winners’ purse money up for grabs over three nights of racing.
