Sixth Annual Gene Maine Memorial Set for This Saturday at Needmore
(Eastaboga, AL - July 8, 2025) – One of the most cherished events on the Needmore Speedway calendar is set to return this Saturday night, as the 6th Annual Gene Maine Memorial rolls into town with the Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series headlining the show.
This annual tribute to the late Gene Maine, affectionately known as “Gentleman Gene”, has become a fan-favorite in South Georgia and North Florida. A former National Late Model Sportsman Series champion and a staple in the regional Late Model scene, Maine was as respected off the track as he was on it. His sudden passing a few years ago left a void in the racing community, but his legacy continues each year through this special event.
The Gene Maine Memorial has seen its share of thrilling finishes and standout performances. In its first five editions, only one driver has managed to win it twice—Mark Whitener, who grabbed back-to-back victories in 2023 and 2024. This race is more than just another night at the track—it’s a celebration of a life well-lived and a career remembered. For those who watched Gene race, and those who race today in his honor, this night means just a little more.

The spotlight will shine brightest on the Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series, who will headline the night with a $5,000-to-win main event. But the excitement doesn’t stop there—Needmore Speedway will also feature a full slate of racing action with CRUSA Late Model Sportsman, CRUSA Street Stocks, Super Streets, Factory Stock, and Crown Vics all on tap.
