Overton Goes Flag-to-Flag at Southern Raceway

(Eastaboga, AL – May 18, 2026) – A packed weekend of racing action took over Hunt the Front’s Southern Raceway as Pete Walton’s USCS Sprint Cars invaded Milton, Florida for a two-night special event, while the CRUSA Dirt Late Models headlined Saturday night with Round Three of the Southern Raceway Late Model Challenge Series.

A strong field of 15 CRUSA Dirt Late Models signed in for Saturday night’s $3,000-to-win showdown, and it was Cody Overton putting together a flawless performance. Driving the No. 97 machine, Overton started from the outside front row and led all 30 laps of the feature event to secure the victory in dominant fashion.

Joseph Joiner continued his strong season with a runner-up finish after advancing from seventh, while Steven Jernigan crossed the line in third. Current series points leader JC Wilson charged from eighth to fourth to maintain the championship lead following three completed rounds of competition. Todd Jones rounded out the top five after advancing from the 11th starting position.

Trent McLeod finished sixth ahead of Joey Moxley, Mitchell Ellis, Shannon Burns, and Kody Cook, who completed the top ten.

Earlier in the evening, Trent McLeod and Cody Overton picked up heat race victories, while Joseph Joiner paced qualifying with a fast lap of 15.870 seconds.

In CRUSA Street Stock competition, Wyatt Parker drove from fifth to the win in the 15-lap feature event. Justin Hamilton finished second after starting sixth, while Hunter Smith completed the podium.

Friday night’s opening program produced one of the wildest finishes of the season in CRUSA Late Model Sportsman competition. Osman Jones was officially awarded the feature victory after post-race inspection disqualified the original winner, while the second and third-place cars tangled coming to the checkered flag.

Jones inherited the victory after surviving the late-race drama, with Shannon Burns and Luke Taylor completing the podium finishers.
