Haynes Dominates 3rd Annual Karen Johnston Memorial at Hendry County
(Eastaboga, AL – May 18, 2026) — A heartfelt night of racing unfolded Saturday evening at Hendry County Motorsports Park as competitors gathered for the 3rd Annual Karen Johnston Memorial, featuring the Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Models. When the checkered flag waved after 30 laps, it was James Haynes putting together a flawless performance to score the memorial victory in dominant fashion.
Seven CRUSA Dirt Late Models signed in for competition at the South Florida oval, and Haynes quickly established himself as the driver to beat. After qualifying second fastest and winning the evening’s heat race, Haynes rolled off from the pole position for the feature and never looked back.
At the drop of the green flag, Haynes immediately took command while outside front-row starter Doug Horton settled into second. Horton appeared poised to challenge early, but trouble cut short his night before the halfway mark, ending what had started as a promising run after setting fast time in qualifying with a lap of 15.940 seconds.
From there, Haynes stretched his advantage while a tight battle developed behind him between Dustin Carter, Kevin Strife, and Jeff Scofield. Carter maintained control of the runner-up position throughout much of the event, while Strife steadily worked his way forward from the fifth starting spot to complete the podium in third.
Scofield brought home a solid fourth-place effort, with Tim Barron recovering from a DNS in the heat race to round out the Top-5 in the main event. Larry Hubbard Jr. was also sidelined before the finish and was credited with a DNF.
Haynes led all 30 laps in the caution-free memorial feature, adding another impressive victory to his 2026 season while honoring the memory of Karen Johnston in victory lane.
